The day started here at the Tillamook Chamber of Commerce for maps and info

And looking at the Morning Star Schooner after touring the Tillamook Cheese factory

Tillamook was still completely socked in at 10:00 so figured doing the
Three Capes tour route from the South might give the fog a chance to burn
off. So, South on 101 to Hebo, West to Pacific City and into Cape Kiwanda.

The Dorymen Memorial

The beach at Cape Kiwanda looking South

They sure do love signs here in the Peoples Republic of Oregon

This monolith is called Haystack Rock same as the one in Cannon Beach.
This one has a teapot handle on the side.
It will stay socked in all day long as it turned out

On to Cape Lookout to the North.

This was an easy 5 mile round trip walk.

The rain forest was kind of humid, muddy and slippery...

Not to mention the killer snakes....

There's Sand Beach to the South

This is it! The tip of Cape Lookout....

The ocean is out there somewhere....

The following shots would probably be gorgeous views if you could actually
see past the fog....

Then traveling further South to Cape Meares

Now that the one on the Sunset Highway fell down, this is now the
oldest Sitka Spruce tree in the whole wide world...

The Cape Meares lighthouse
Some knuckleheads with bad upbringing thought it would be
a good idea to shoot out a few of the lighthouse windows...
Democrats :(

This lighthouse was built around 1890 and is still owned
by the US Coast Guard although it is maintained by a private
group of volunteers at no cost to the State or Federal Government.

Not much of a view at Cape Meares today either

The Octopus tree

It was a long day of walking. Time to head for home...

Dinner at Alice's restaurant on route 6 just outside of Tillamook

Ride to Dog Mountain and hike to the summit
